Welcome to Macro Moments Challenge: Week 10 and thank you to everyone who entered last week with our theme of “Inaminate Objects”! For this week’s challenge we are back to no specific theme, just “Macro”.
Congratulations to “The Only Deadhead in the Hameau”, at theonlyd800inthehameau for winning this week’s inanimate objects challenge with his photo of three matchsticks, taken during a macro photography class. I loved the starkness of the matches against a black background. Please pay “the Deadhead” a visit and view his work
This is a place to share the beauty of macro photography and learn from each other. Please join in! A new challenge begins each Wednesday, and I announce the winner from the previous week when I post the new challenge. The winner’s photo will be featured on this blog used as the banner in the announcement for the next week’s challenge, unless I am requested not to use it.
Instructions for participating in the challenge are found at the end of this post.
I follow a number of professional photographers on-line, and one of my favorites is Gerry Van der Walt of Wild Eye http://www.wild-eye.co.za/ . His team leads amazing photo safaris and he posts lots of instructional articles on the website and videos on You Tube (search for “Wild Eye”). Just recently an article appeared on my Facebook page called “Behind the Frame (Macro Photography): Cape Thick-toed Gecko portrait” http://www.wild-eye.co.za/behind-the-frame-macro-photography-cape-thick-toed-gecko-portrait/. You might want to check it out.
If you have been following my backyard quest for butterflies, you know that I recently planted milkweed to attract them. The plants are still quite small but are attracting some interesting “appendages”. I have no idea what the golden/yellow things are or the name of the little beetle (if that’s what it is). Maybe some of you can enlighten us.
- f9, 1/160, ISO 1000
- F9, 1/125, ISO 1600
Both photos were shot with my Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera and my Olympus M.60mm f.2.8 macro lens, handheld, edited in LR. Hover over each photo to see the camera settings.
Here’s how the challenge works:
- Choose a favorite macro photo from the past week or from your archives.
- Create a new post on your blog entitled “Macro Moments: Week (insert week)“.
- Add the photo to your post and a brief description. I would love to know, as I am sure others would, too, what camera and lens you used and your settings.
- You may submit more than one photo, but submit each in a separate post if you want to be included in the judging.
- Deadline for submitting your entries is 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, Pacific Time.
- Create a * pingback to this post and/or leave a link to your post in the comments section.
- Tag your post Macro Moments so others can find it.
If you’re not sure how to create a pingback, Here are instructions
The following bloggers also submitted entries in last week’s challenge. A couple weren’t eligible for the judging because they weren’t inanimate, but I’ve listed them anyway. Pay a visit to view their work and if I missed anybody, please let me know!

You’re welcome. I’m about to change it to the header, which I forgot to do. Great shot of the owl!
