Rhine River Cruise and Israel-Day Three

We are pretty jet-lagged ( didn’t sleep well last night) but it was out the door at 8:30 am to head for the city of Lucerne. Lucerne is a beautiful city on the shores of Lake Lucerne. We drove through the countryside for about an hour and fifteen minutes to the city.  Our first stop was at the lion monument which commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris.

We then  had an orientation walking tour followed by  a couple of hours to walk around the city and have a bite of lunch.

After lunch we got back on our busses and drove a short distance to the base of Mt. Pilates. The top of the mountain is at 7000 feet. We rode gondolas up and the views were breathtaking!  We spent some time at the visitors center on the top of the mountain. It was quite foggy so we couldn’t see too much. The ride down the mountain was by cogwheel train and again the terrains and views were beautiful. We dropped some passengers off at a quaint farmhouse and were greeted by the owner and his cows !  It was a wonderful day!

We returned to the ship in time to depart Basel and start our cruise down the Rhine river. Tonight was the Captain’s reception and dinner. We are having a great time with Ellen and Neal and have met some lovely people. Hoping to catch up on some sleep tonight!
