Almost Extinct

In the 1700’s and 1800’s sea otters were hunted almost to extinction by fur traders.  They gained protection with the International Fur Seal Treaty of 1911 and their numbers have slowly recovered.  I think that these delightful animals are very resilient but they still face threats from oil spills, shark attacks, entrapment and pollution of their habitat.
