Our first morning in Maui began with a drama unfolding on the beach.  A monk seal had washed or climbed ashore.  It was determined that he/she was alive and soon the authorities arrived.  It turns out that this is an endangered species and that they come ashore to sleep periodically.  Lots of onlookers gathered around and the area was cordoned off to protect him/her.  We’ll keep an eye out throughout the day to see what develops.
