My submission to The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge Out of this World

This week Ben instructed us to take something familiar and make it look “Out of This World”.  I passed this tree on my morning walk here in Maui.  Although the tree is not really familiar to me, a close up of it’s trunk transforms it to something rather otherworldly.

The tree is called Screw Pine Lauhala, and it is indigenous to the Pacific Islands. The fruit can be consumed while the trunk can be used as building material and the leaves as thatch.
