Last week I decided to follow the example of some fellow photographers and launch a Pandemic Porch Portraits project to document this historic time that we are living in. Each day I will visit a different family in Willow Glen, where I live, and FROM A VERY SAFE DISTANCE, photograph them on their front porch. I have not done much portrait photography and bright light and shadows are a challenge, but it’s an opportunity to learn! All that I ask in return, is that the family make a donation to an organization that is helping people get through the pandemic or to a medical organization. participants will be able to download their photos or order prints and at the end of the project I will make a book to remember this time. Response has been overwhelming! I have booked a shoot every weekday through May 15th and have stopped accepting requests.
I will step back from participating in most of my usual challenges while the porch project is in progress, and I will share a round-up from the porch photos weekly to replace the challenge round-up. I hope you enjoy them! The remaining photos today are from the challenges that I entered before starting the porch shoots.
Pandemic Porch Portraits:
Photo Challenges:
The challenges have different themes and rules. For some, the photo must be taken the week of the challenge, for others you can dig into your archives. Some even have prizes. Many of the sites have pages on Facebook. Links are included to each challenge and the theme of the challenge is in the caption of each picture. I think that other photographers enjoy learning about new challenges. You can share links to ones that you enjoy in the comments section so that we can all check them out.
