This week Nancy Merrill, in her Photo A Week Challenge, has chosen the theme Something New. On Monday evening I had the privilege of being able to participate in a class presented by a fabulous photographer, Steve Gettle, https://stevegettle.com/. The class was sponsored by our local camera club and was, of course, over Zoom.
So often we just snap our photo as we come upon it, but Steve is very purposeful about deciding what he wants to convey and composing his shot in his head before pressing the shutter. He pay particular attention to his background and to choosing settings that result in soft bokeh (blur) in pleasing colors and without clutter. Steve almost always has his camera on a tripod and often uses fill flash. He does very little post-processing. What one sees is very close to what comes out of camera, with just a small amount of tweaking.
Yesterday I went out in my yard to experiment with the new insights that I’d gotten from Steve. I was happy with the results and will continue to apply what I learned in his class! I can’t wait to travel again so that I can practice more with wildlife and beautiful scenery!
