Sunday Stills: In the Rear View Mirror

For her Sunday Stills challenge this week Teri has chosen the theme, “In the Rear View Mirror”, inviting us to look back at 2021.

I have compiled a gallery of some of my favorite photos from last year. Many of them are memories from the wonderful trip to Alaska that my husband and I were privileged to make. We sailed for eight days on the Lindblad National Geographic Endurance and then took the train to Denali National Park where we spent several more days.

“The forest is the first cathedral. I felt that from the time I was a child. I credit my mother with that. I used to think it came from her Native-American side. Whichever it was, she instinctively connected with nature, and taught me that. “

Alice Walker

Other favorites include some from closer to home, our trips to Lake Tahoe and Palm Desert, and photos that I took in my little home studio to submit to the various challenges that I participate in weekly. I know that 2021 was a difficult year in many ways, but my passion for photography kept me focused how fortunate I am and on the beauty and good in the world around me.

  3. Oh wow, Alaska is on our radar for a future trip as soon as we can be confident of borders staying open, and it looks amazing! I love that last water drop shot too, and the portrait is so well lit 🙂

  4. Susan, I enjoyed your pictorial look at 2021. Alaska was one of our ‘canceled’ trips for 2019 and we have yet to reschedule. I love your studio shots (especially the portrait) and agree with you that ‘photography keeps us focused on the beauty and good all around.’
